In August 2020 Catriona was awarded the Columba Legacy Award to create an artwork in celebration of: the life of St Columba, connections between Ireland and Scotland and the natural world.

In response to the brief Catriona created three artworks depicting birds from the genus ‘Columba’. The watercolour birds were then overlaid with light projections from film footage shot on islands with historical links to St Columba.

The accompanying film brings together the watercolour birds and footage with an original soundtrack by composer Carla Sayer and features an archival recording of Annie Johnston reciting ‘Cànan nan Eun’ (The Language of the Birds). You can read more about the project here on the Argyll and Isles Culture, Heritage and Arts website.

The artworks were then projected onto Machaig’s Tower in Oban as part of the Colmcille 1500 celebrations funded by CHARTS.

Prints of these three artworks are available in the website shop.
